Olexa Bulavytsky (Олекса Васильович Булавиицький) was a Ukrainian artist born in Uman in 1916. He studied art in Leningrad and Odesa in 1935–1938 and later at the Kyiv Art Academy during 1939–1941in the studio of Fedir Krychevsky. Upon graduation, Bulavytsky worked as a decorator and designer in Kyiv Film Studios and for several theatres. After World War II, the artist stayed at the camp of Displaced Persons in Berchtesgaden, Germany. In 1950 Bulavytsky with his family moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota. He worked for architectural firm as a draftsman and designer but also maintainer his own art studio. The artist died in 2001. A number of his works were donated by his family to Kyiv Museum of Diaspora.
